Detecting Multiple Myeloma
How do you know if you have multiple myeloma?
The standard criteria has the acronym CRAB:
C, Calcium, elevated levels of calcium, due to the breakdown of bone
R, Renal, kidney function and damage
A, Anemia, low levels of red blood cells, may lead to fatigue
B, Bone lesions and damage
You may not have any noticeable symptoms. Common symptoms are (from WebMD):
- Loss of appetite
- Bone pain and weakness
- Confusion
- Constipation
- Dizziness
- More thirst
- Infections
- Bruising or purple-colored rash
- Shortness of breath
- Weakness and fatigue
- Weight loss
